NURSING ROUTE
Nursing in the UK Has Two Very Different Routes — Know Yours First
Route 1 — Nursing Degree (UG): If you're finishing school or have no nursing qualification yet, you'd apply for a BSc (Hons) Adult, Mental Health, Children's or Learning Disability Nursing degree at a UK university. This includes around 2,300 hours of supervised clinical placement and leads to NMC registration automatically on graduation.
Route 2 — NMC Registration (for already-qualified nurses): If you already hold a GNM, BSc Nursing or equivalent Indian qualification and are registered with the Indian Nursing Council, you don't need another degree. You register directly with the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) — a two-part Test of Competence (CBT, then OSCE in the UK) plus an English test (IELTS or OET) — and can work on a Health & Care Worker visa.
Most Indian nursing enquiries are actually Route 2, not a fresh degree. Getting this distinction right at the start saves months of misdirected planning.

NMC accepts IELTS Academic (7.0 overall, min 6.5 each band) or OET (Grade B in Listening/Reading/Speaking, C+ Writing). Degree route: usually IELTS 6.5–7.0.
NMC Test of Competence
Already-qualified nurses must clear the NMC's two-part Test of Competence — a Computer-Based Test (CBT), then an OSCE clinical exam taken in the UK after arrival.

Passport, nursing council documents, Certificate of Good Standing, police clearance, employer reference, health certificate — validity dates matter.
Budget, Funding & Visa
Compare a Student visa (degree route) against a Health & Care Worker visa (NMC route) — the latter usually costs less and skips the health surcharge.
